Simon
Domestic Shorthair
Simon’s story began in a heartbreaking situation, but thanks to a few caring people, he’s finally safe and thriving. Last summer in the Bronx, two tiny kittens - Simon and his sister, Cyrus - were found in the hands of children who had been instructed by their father to kill them with rocks because they were sickly. One of our connections happened to walk by, intervened immediately, and got them to safety. Another woman stepped in to foster both kittens. Despite every effort, Cyrus developed severe congenital heart failure and passed away at just seven weeks old, but Simon continued to fight. As he grew, Simon developed congenital constipation issues, likely due to a misshapen colon. His foster hoped she had found him a permanent home, but the adopter returned him after only a week when his medical needs and normal kitten energy were misunderstood. That’s when CCNYC was contacted for help. We brought Simon into our foster program, gathered his medical records, and one of our dedicated fosters spent months stabilizing him through vet visits, medications, dietary trials, and eventually a gastrointestinal diet that finally brought him comfort.
