Mabel
Domestic Shorthair
Mabel’s rescue took place on the coldest night of the year, when the freezing temperatures made survival outdoors nearly impossible. That evening, a neighbor noticed her waiting outside a nearby home, sitting by the front door and looking through the windows as if she were hoping someone would let her in. A short while later, when the family opened their door to leave, Mabel ran straight inside, choosing warmth and safety without hesitation. Although she looked disheveled from life on the streets, her friendly and trusting behavior immediately stood out. The family assumed she must be someone’s pet because of how affectionate she was. After quickly devouring a can of cat food, Mabel surprised everyone by hopping right into a cat carrier on her own, as if she already knew help had arrived. They brought her to the nearest animal hospital, fully expecting her to have a microchip. Instead, they learned she was a stray. The veterinarian told them that if Mabel had not been brought in that night, she likely would not have survived the harsh weather. Mabel was vaccinated, examined, and cleared to go home.
